Alexis Andrus is a professional violinist and instructor in Spokane, Washington. She received her Master of Music in Violin Performance in 2020 from Eastern Washington University, where she was concertmaster of the EWU Symphony Orchestra under director Dr. John Marshall, and she studied privately with Dr. Julia Salerno. Alexis is now a section violinist in the Coeur d’Alene Symphony, and she also plays professionally throughout Spokane, collaborating with other string musicians, pianists, singers, choirs, and actors. Beyond classical music, Alexis loves exploring other genres and styles. In her free time, she is often collaborating with non-classical musicians and arranging covers of pop or indie songs.
Alexis received her Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance under scholarship from Gonzaga University, where she studied with Principal Violinist of the Spokane Symphony, Amanda Howard-Phillips. She served as concertmaster of the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra from 2015 to 2017 and as principal second violinist from 2014 to 2015 under the direction of Dr. Kevin Hekmatpanah.
Originally from Mesa, Arizona, much of Alexis’ foundational music education is owed to Cathy Worcester of the Symphony of the Southwest, with whom Alexis studied for 12 years.
Teaching and Outreach
Alexis is inspired to share her love of music with others, especially youth. In addition to teaching private violin lessons, Alexis has also devoted her time in children’s afterschool music programs, including the Cheney Strings Academy and the Spokane Symphony’s Music Innovates program. Her teaching style is based on Dr. Suzuki’s education philosophy, “Every child can.” She brings joy to the learning process by engaging with her students’ imaginations in lessons while also cultivating diligent work ethic and attention to detail.
